2. How did one invention lead to another? 

One invention led to another because inventions such as the power loom demanded the produce of more cotton, therefore the cotton gin was invented. Basically one invention needed something so it lead to the creation of another and another.

3. Why were factories called sweatshops? 

Factories were called sweatshops because inside the factories it was very hot and sweaty. It also meant how the labor was sweated out of the kids.

4.Why were factories kept warm and humid? 

The factories were kep warm and humid so that the cotton threads wounldn't rip. 

5. What illnessess resulted from factory work?

The air was filled with cotton fibers so the workers usually got lung problems, tuberculosis, eye inflamations, deafness and mouth cancers.

6. Why was there a substanial incidence of disability, disfigurement, and death in factories?  

There were a lot of incidents because the machines had no safety features and it was very easy to get fingers, hands, or hair caught in them. 

7. Why were children desired as employees?

Children were desired as employees because they were cheaper to employ and were small. They were small enough to go in the small spaces of machines and change the thread.

8. What tasks did children perform in factories? 

The children did jobs that revolved around the machines, there was also certain kids that had to overlook the machines.

9. What was the impact of long term factory employment on children?

The effect of long term factory employment left kids permanently disabled or caused them to die at a younger age.

10. How has time, and the work day changed?

The time and the work day has changed because the work hours were 12-14 hours, but nowadays we can't work for that much time. There were also no sick days or absent days if you weren't there you were fired. 

11. What was the impact of factory work on the workers?

The impact of factory work on the workers was boring and repititive the workers felt dehumanized.
